PIZZA SCHMIZZA

🍕 & 🧻

Over the years, the nearly two dozen Pizza Schmizzas throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington have earned a reputation for quality pies and an irreverent, meme-heavy social media presence.

So when COVID-19 forced a shift to take-out and delivery service, we knew a basic, by-the-numbers response just wouldn’t do.

That’s when we leaned into the news cycle at the height of the hysteria over toilet paper. (Yes, we know COVID-19 doesn’t impact bowel movements; no, we don’t understand the shortage, either.) Flush with rolls destined to waste away without in-store customers, several Schmizzas started offering free toilet paper with every purchase.

Naturally, the deal cleaned up on social media. (Maybe our fans just really needed some extra toilet paper.) Across platforms, the posts racked up thousands of likes, hundreds of comments, and dozens of shares—leading to a big boost in business for our valued clients.

Normally, that would be the end of it. But media outlets all over the Pacific Northwest caught wind of our promotion—helping it “go viral”, as the kids say. Willamette Week, the local alt-weekly, sniffed out the story. So did Fox 12 Oregon, The Oregonian/OregonLive, Seattle’s KIRO 7 News, and Restaurant Business.
