      <image:caption>Mr. Rogers famously said, “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’” So when the COVID-19 pandemic came to Southwest Washington earlier this spring, members of the Northbank Brewers Alliance took the message to heart: Thirty member breweries decided to team up, brew and can a classic Northwest IPA, sell four-packs at their respective brewpubs—and donate the proceeds to stressed-out food banks throughout the region. In all, a few dozen cases were sent to breweries throughout Southwest Washington, with most selling out by the end of release day. And, most importantly, we got to help five food banks struggling under the weight of the COVID-19 pandemic.</image:caption>

Joe Exotic might have seen a tiger, but in that binge-worthy spectacle, Barlow’s saw an opportunity: With stay-at-home orders keeping crowds away (and draft lines dry), Barlow’s pivoted from plans to can its first beer this summer and seized the moment. Tiger King IPA, the brewery’s first canned beer, was born.</image:title>

If even a sliver found its way into an outlet or data port, it would create a fire hazard. (Above and beyond the fire hazard, though, paint-splattered outlets just look sloppy, don’t they?)</image:caption>

Young was bitten by the brewing bug in the early 1990s—and was churning out some of the region’s most popular ales and lagers under the Dick’s Brewing Company banner by 1994.</image:title>

      <image:title>Our Work - Case Study: Dick’s Brewing Company - The sense of fun and silliness came through clearly in our label for El Ricardo, a crisp Mexican lager; the illustration features a sombrero-wearing lime, which is perhaps the very definition of “silly.” The Straight Coastin’ label depicts a Centralian couple enjoying life on an ATV over the dunes of the Washington Coast, and the Silver Mullet label features a nod to Dick Young, who loved riding his Harley. (The name “Silver Mullet” and the rider’s flowing locks even show up silver on the can for an added pop of metallic flourish.)</image:title>

So when Kafiex (Cah-fay-ex) Roasters could no longer welcome guests to its Coffee Lab in downtown Vancouver this past spring, co-owners Seidy and Matthew Selivanow did the next best thing: They brought their award-winning cold brew coffee to the world.       <image:title>Our Work - Case Study: Kafiex Coffee Roasters - Soon after COVID-19 forced the Kafiex closure, Seidy and Matthew approached us about designing labels for three cold brew cans they wanted to release: its original cold brew (which won the People’s Choice award at Cold Brew Fest in 2018), an Ethiopia cold brew, and an oat-milk latte.</image:title>

      <image:title>Our Work - Case Study: Kafiex Coffee Roasters - Our next opportunity was figuring out how to communicate that information through the prism of Kafiex’s playful brand. We opted for bold, bright colors—teal for the original cold brew can, and a deep blue for the Ethiopia can—and accented that with a metallic background pattern dotted with coffee beans, pots, and roasters. We rounded out each design with the Kafiex logo and a black flag on the front of the can, along with images of three coffee beans—the same coffee bean graphics you’d see in the Kafiex shop.</image:title>

      <image:title>Our Work - Case Study: Kafiex Coffee Roasters - But describing what’s on the can only tells part of the story—a story that couldn’t be told without contributions from several team members at every stage of the design process. Our ace graphic designer Ashley Jhaveri brought together most of the graphical elements and came up with an easily identifiable template for the three cans, but Matthew at Kafiex designed the metallic pattern that appears on each label, and one of our social media marketing pros (Will Smith) suggested we add the three coffee beans to help tie the cans and shop together. (You’re never getting just one brain when teaming up with ZZeppelin; our whole team puts their heads together to give our clients the best possible experience on every project.)</image:title>
